InviteBird can reach guests by text message as well as email, but texting is always optional and always consent-based. This article explains exactly how that consent works, so you and your guests know what to expect.

Texting is United States and Canada only

Text messages are sent to US and Canada mobile numbers only. A number anywhere else is never texted; if that guest also has an email address, they're reached by email instead. This keeps delivery reliable, since messages to other regions would fail at the carrier anyway.

The reply-YES opt-in

A guest is not enrolled in event texts just because you added their phone number. The first time InviteBird would text a guest, it sends a single confirmation text that names you and your event, includes the RSVP link, and asks the guest to reply YES to receive event updates by text.

  • If the guest replies YES, they're opted in and start receiving event texts (reminders, updates, a thank-you).
  • If the guest doesn't reply, no further texts are sent — they simply won't get event updates by text.
  • The guest can still RSVP right away using the link in that first text. Replying YES only turns on ongoing texts; it's never required to respond.

Because that first text carries the actual invitation link, your guest isn't left with an empty "reply YES" with nothing to look at.

STOP and HELP

Every text InviteBird sends includes the standard keywords:

  • STOP — reply STOP at any time to opt out immediately and permanently. The guest gets a one-time confirmation and receives no further texts. (Words like unsubscribe, cancel, end, and quit work too.)
  • HELP — reply HELP for support information.

Standard message and data rates may apply; carriers may charge for incoming and outgoing messages depending on the guest's plan. InviteBird never charges guests for texts.

What the program covers

Text messages are limited to event communication — invitations, RSVP reminders, host updates such as a venue or schedule change, and a thank-you after the event. There is no marketing or promotional texting in this program. Volume is typically one to five messages per event per guest, depending on how many reminders and updates you choose to send.

When you send to guests who will be reached by text, you're asked to confirm — with a single checkbox — that each of those guests personally gave you their number for event communication. This attestation is separate from, and in addition to, the guest's own reply-YES enrollment. Both exist to keep texting welcome rather than intrusive.

Consenting to texts is never a requirement for using InviteBird: guests can always RSVP through the web link without receiving a single text, and you can choose to invite entirely by email or by sharing your link.

Where to read the full terms

The complete program terms — message types, frequency, the opt-in mechanism, HELP and STOP handling, and the messaging operator's contact details — are published on the public SMS terms page linked from InviteBird's footer. Accepting the general Terms of Service or Privacy Policy does not, by itself, constitute text opt-in; consent is the standalone YES reply.

Common questions

Why did my guest get a "Reply YES" text before my invitation? That's the one-time opt-in confirmation. It carries your event link so the guest can RSVP immediately, and asks them to reply YES to receive further updates by text. It's sent once, the first time InviteBird would text that guest.

Which guests can receive texts? Guests with a US or Canada mobile number. Numbers elsewhere aren't texted and are reached by email instead.

What does replying STOP do? It opts the guest out of texts immediately and permanently, with a one-time confirmation. No further texts are sent for that event's program.

Do texts cost my guests anything? InviteBird doesn't charge guests, but standard carrier message and data rates may apply depending on the guest's plan.

Is texting required to RSVP? No. The RSVP link works for everyone. Texting is entirely optional, and a guest can respond without ever opting in.

Can I text a guest who only gave me an email? No — a text needs a mobile number on file. Guests with only an email are reached by email. See How email and text message invitations are sent.
