The Song & Music window sets the music that plays on your invitation. You can write a custom song with InviteBird AI — it drafts the lyrics from your event details, then makes a real, sung track — or pick a ready-made instrumental from the music library. Whatever you choose plays when a guest opens your invitation.

This is separate from the playlist feature, which collects song requests from your guests. Here, you choose one piece of music for the invitation itself.

Turning it on

Open your event and go to Song & Music. While it's off, the window asks Want a custom song for your event? Tap Yes, make me a song to open it. The window has seven sections down the side (along the top on a phone):

  • Overview shows what's playing at your event right now, with Play, Download and Remove. When nothing is set, it offers Write a song and Pick a ready-made track.
  • Ready-made tracks opens the music library.
  • Song Lyrics Maker is where you write the words and make the song.
  • My songs lists every song you've made.
  • Plan & takes shows how many free songs are left, and the unlock.
  • Settings shows what's playing and lets you turn Song & Music off.
  • Help has a spoken tour from Birdie, these guides, and a form to write to us.

Writing a custom song

Open Song Lyrics Maker.

1 · Make it personal (optional). Open Make it personal to give the songwriter more to work with:

  • A few things about them — stories, inside jokes, what they love (up to 400 characters).
  • Names to include — family, friends, even the dog, separated by commas.
  • Mood — Heartfelt, Funny, Party or Romantic.
  • Sound — Upbeat pop, Acoustic, Ballad, Country, R&B & soul, Rock, Jazz & swing, Latin or Kids' sing-along.
  • Singer — a female or a male voice.
  • Language — English and Mandarin are sung most naturally; the others work, with less steady pronunciation.
  • Leave out — anything the song mustn't mention.
  • How to say the name — see below.

Skip any of them and we choose. What you write is saved with your song draft, so your co-hosts see it too. Guests never see it.

2 · Write the words. Tap Generate lyrics and InviteBird AI writes a verse, a chorus that carries their name (sung three times, word for word), a second verse, a bridge and a short outro, and fills in the Style & mood line the music is made from. It's asked to stick to your event details and your notes, and to keep to warm, general lines where those run out — still, read it through and fix any detail before you make the song. To help, a Check these line under the lyrics box lists any name, place or number in the draft that isn't in your notes or event details; tap one to jump to it in the lyrics. Words you type yourself are never listed. It can't spot a made-up moment built from true words, so a quick read still matters. Edit anything in the lyrics box or the style. Rewrite lyrics asks for a different song — a new chorus and a new angle, not the same words reworded; a message appears with Undo if you want your earlier words back. Writing and rewriting lyrics is always free.

Saying the name right. If the guest of honour's name is easy to mis-say — Siobhán, Niamh, a name in another script — fill in How to say "…" with a sound-alike spelling, such as Shiv-awn. Only the singer uses it: your lyrics, your library and everything guests read keep the real name.

Section labels. Lines in square brackets — [Verse], [Chorus], [Bridge] — tell the music how to arrange the song; they aren't sung. The song maker understands [Intro], [Verse], [Pre Chorus], [Chorus], [Post Chorus], [Hook], [Bridge], [Interlude], [Break], [Transition], [Build Up], [Inst], [Solo] and [Outro], plus everyday spellings like Verse 2, Pre-Chorus or a bare Chorus: line. Any other bracketed label is left out of the song. Lyrics can be up to 3,500 characters; a song made from a generated draft usually runs about two minutes.

3 · Create the song. Once there are a few lines of lyrics, Create a song appears underneath. Making the song takes about two to three minutes. You don't have to wait: leave the page and we'll send you a notification the moment it's ready. If you stay on the page, the finished song starts playing at your event on its own.

4 · Pick what plays. Every finished song collects under My songs, newest first. The one playing at your event is marked Your pick. Tap Make active on any other song to switch, or Download to keep the file.

Only one song is made at a time. If one is already being made — in another tab, or by a co-host — the window shows it composing instead of starting a second.

If a song can't be made, you're told so and the take isn't counted against your free songs.

Picking a ready-made track instead

Open Ready-made tracks and tap Browse ready-made tracks to open the Music library — a searchable collection of instrumental tracks grouped into moods like Elegant, Whimsical, Energetic, Acoustic, Tropical, and Holiday. A For your event filter floats tracks that suit your occasion to the top. Preview any track, then tap Use.

Ready-made tracks are the way to get instrumental (music-only) background; the custom-song studio always writes a sung song.

What your guests hear

Whatever you set plays on your invitation, with one important detail: music never blares on automatically. Browsers block sound until a visitor interacts, so the track starts on the guest's first tap — opening the envelope, for example. If their phone doesn't allow it on that tap, it starts on the next one. A small floating button lets anyone mute the music, and their choice is remembered, so unmuting resumes the same track. If the host has also recorded a voice note, the music pauses while it plays.

A custom song plays through once; a ready-made track plays twice. The music stays with the guest through the RSVP steps, and it doesn't play on the Event Day screens.

Cost

Writing lyrics is always free — rewrite them as many times as you like. Every event includes two free songs, enough to try a couple of takes and keep the one you love. Want more options? A one-time $9.99 unlock in Plan & takes lets you make up to 30 takes for that event. Ready-made library tracks are free. As always, your plan is based on your guest count when you send, per Plans and pricing, not on the music.

Turning it off, and after the event

In Settings, Turn off Song & Music pauses the music for your guests and takes the mute button away. Your songs and your pick stay in the window, and the same track plays again when you turn Song & Music back on. (If that track was removed in the meantime, the Overview asks you to pick your music again.)

Once your event has wrapped, the music is frozen: you can still play and download your songs, but you can't make new ones or change what plays.

Common questions

What's the difference between this and the playlist? The Song & Music window sets one piece of music that plays on your invitation. The playlist collects song requests from your guests and can build a Spotify playlist for the party. They're separate and can both be on.

Can I make an instrumental (music without singing)? The custom-song studio always writes a sung song. For instrumental, pick a ready-made track from the Music library — those are instrumental.

My song isn't playing when I open the invitation. That's usually by design: music only starts after a guest interacts with the page (a tap or opening the envelope), and there's a floating mute button that may be muted. Tap the page, then check the mute button. Also confirm that a song is set as Your pick under My songs, and that Song & Music is turned on.

Can I change the song after guests have started opening the invitation? Yes. Make another take or pick a different track and set it active; the new choice plays going forward.

The singer says the name wrong. Open Make it personal, fill in How to say "…" with a spelling that sounds right — Shiv-awn, Nee-av — and make the song again. Your lyrics keep the real spelling.

Can the song be in Spanish, or another language? Yes — pick it under Language in Make it personal before you tap Generate lyrics. Names stay exactly as you typed them, in their own script.

How long does generating a song take? Two to three minutes. You'll see Composing… while it works. You can leave the page and we'll notify you when it's ready.

I used my two free songs. What now? Open Plan & takes and unlock up to 30 takes for $9.99, or pick a ready-made track, which is always free.
