A voice note is a short spoken greeting from you that guests hear when they open your invitation, before they RSVP. It's the warmest way to add your own voice to a digital invite — a quick hello, an inside joke, or a heartfelt few words. You record it once and can replace it any time.
Recording your voice note
Open your event and go to the Voice note tab. Off, it asks Add a personal voice note? — tap Yes, record one to switch it on. That opens Record your greeting.
When you start recording, your browser asks permission to use your microphone. Tap Allow — nothing is captured until you press the record button. Tap the button again to stop, or let it stop on its own at 30 seconds. The greeting saves the moment you stop, and the tab shows it with a play button so you can listen back. If it isn't right, tap Re-record: the new take replaces the old one only once it has uploaded, so you never lose a greeting halfway through. You can also Cancel a take in progress and keep the one you have, or Delete the greeting (that turns the voice note off and clears the caption).
Keep it short and personal; this is a hello, not a speech. To add a line of text under the play button, open Words and write a caption (up to 120 characters), or tap Suggest one for an AI draft. The caption stays when you re-record.
What your guests hear
When a guest opens your invitation and a voice note is on, a friendly Message from the host card appears first — before the invitation itself — with a play button and a Continue to the invitation button. Nothing plays on its own: your greeting starts when the guest presses play. The card shows once per visit so it never nags, and guests can replay the greeting any time from the invitation afterward. If your invitation is password-protected, guests see the greeting only after they enter the password. If your invitation has a song, the song pauses while your greeting plays and carries on when it ends.
Turning it off
In Settings you'll find the turn-off control. Turning the voice note off hides it from guests immediately; your recording is saved so you can turn it back on any time. Once your event has wrapped, the voice note is locked like the rest of the event and can no longer be changed.
Limits and details
- A voice note is a single recording per event, up to 30 seconds. Longer recordings are refused.
- Recording works in current Safari (iPhone and Mac), Chrome, Edge and Firefox. In-app browsers that can't record will tell you to open the page in a regular browser.
- You need a working microphone and to grant your browser microphone permission. If you've blocked it before, you'll need to re-allow it in your browser's site settings.
- Co-hosts you've added can record, replace and switch the voice note on or off, the same as you.
- The voice note is your own greeting. Messages that guests record for you are a different feature — see Keepsake prompts.
- The voice note is separate from event music. If you also want a song playing on your invitation, that's the AI party song and music studio; both can be on at once.
Common questions
When do guests hear it? The moment they open the invitation, as a Message from the host card that appears before the invitation. It plays once per visit and can be replayed afterward.
The record button isn't working, or I get no sound. Almost always a microphone permission issue, and the recorder tells you which: blocked, no microphone found, or the microphone busy in another app. When your browser asks, tap Allow. If you accidentally blocked it, open your browser's site settings for the page and re-enable the microphone, then reload. On an iPhone in Safari, tap the aA button in the address bar, choose Website Settings, and set Microphone to Allow. If the upload fails, the recorder keeps your take and offers Try uploading again.
Can I change my recording after I've saved it? Yes. Return to the Voice note tab and re-record — the new greeting replaces the old one. You can also turn the feature off without deleting anything; your recording is kept. Deleting it removes the recording for good.
Is the voice note the same as the event song? No. The voice note is your spoken greeting. The AI party song is background music that plays on the invitation. They're separate features and can both be on.
Does a voice note cost extra? No — it's included on every plan. You're billed by guest count when you send, per Plans and pricing.
