The live quiz is a Kahoot-style game you run at your event. You write the questions ahead of time; on the day, you fire them one at a time from your phone while a big screen shows the join code, the answers, and the leaderboard. Guests play along on their own phones against a countdown, and a winner is crowned at the end. It's built to be the most fun ten minutes of the party.

It's Live at the party in your Quiz module. The same list of questions can also be played quietly as guests reply — one list, two ways to play, and you can use both.

Turning it on and writing questions

Open your event, go to the Quiz tab and tap Live at the party (or Add a live quiz instead if the Quiz is off), then Yes, add the live quiz. Write your list on Questions: a name for the quiz (the title the big screen shows), the seconds per question, and the questions themselves. A question is playable once it has question text and at least two answer options with the correct one marked. You can write and polish questions any time before the event — nothing is time-limited about the setup.

Describe what you'd like in the InviteBird AI box and tap Write my questions; it drafts, you read them over and Save quiz. If you also run the RSVP game, guests get the same questions as they reply.

The three screens on game day

The live game uses three views at once, and it helps to know who looks at what:

  • Your console — Live at the party on the Quiz tab, open on your own phone or laptop. This is where you start the game and throw each question. Any co-host device can open the tab and take over mid-game; if two of you tap at once, the second tap is told the game has already moved on instead of skipping a question.
  • The big screen — your Event Day kiosk (an iPad, laptop, or anything you're projecting). It shows the join QR code, then each question, the answer, and the leaderboard. Guests never touch this; they just watch it.
  • Guests' phones — each guest scans the QR on the big screen, types a nickname, and answers on their own phone.

One setup step first: open Preview Event Day from your Home page once before the event. That creates your kiosk screen and its QR code. Until you've done that, the console will remind you — and so will the Live side of the Event Day tab.

Running the show

On the event day, open the Quiz tab and tap Start the quiz. (It only starts on the event date, counted in your event's time zone, with a day's leeway either side — before then it tells you so. You can write questions and use Demo Mode any day.) Your kiosk switches to the game automatically and shows the join code. As guests join, you'll see them arrive; tap Throw question 1 to begin.

For each question, guests race a countdown on their phones. Your console shows how many have answered and a private Answer: … — only you can see this hint so you always know the right one. Tap Reveal now to end the question (or let the timer run out), then Show leaderboard, then Next question. After the last question the button becomes Crown the winner, and the big screen celebrates them. You can End game (keep scores) or Cancel (no winner) at any point — each asks once before it acts. If your phone loses its connection the console says so and shows the last numbers it heard. Turning the live quiz off in Settings ends a game that's running.

Scoring rewards both accuracy and speed: a correct answer is worth up to 1,000 points, and faster answers score more. Wrong answers score zero. A guest gets one answer per question — the first tap is final — and ties on points go to whoever answered faster overall. The leaderboard shows the nicknames guests typed, up to 300 players per game.

Demo Mode

Next to every quiz is a Demo Mode button. It plays a fake round of the real game full-screen on your own device — any day, no guests, nothing shown on the kiosk — so you can see exactly what the projection looks like before the party. It uses your first question, or a canned one if the quiz is empty.

Game settings

Settings gives you three rules that apply to every quiz on the event:

  • How scoring works — Speed bonus (faster correct answers earn more, up to 1,000) or Same for all (every correct answer is worth 1,000).
  • Skip ahead when everyone's answered — the answer shows the instant every player has locked in, so there's no dead air.
  • Lock the game once it starts — no new players after question 1. Leave it off and latecomers can still hop in mid-game.

Settings are locked in when you start a game, so a change you make mid-game applies to the next game, not the one in progress.

Common questions

Do guests need an app or an account? No. They scan the QR on the big screen, type a nickname, and play in their phone's browser. No app, no login.

Why won't the Start button work? The game can only be started on the event date (with a day's leeway either side), and not once the event has wrapped. Before then you can write questions and use Demo Mode, but Start tells you it's too early. Also make sure you've opened Preview Event Day once, so your kiosk and QR exist.

Can guests join late? Only if you've left Lock the game once it starts off. With it on, no one can join after the first question is thrown.

What's the difference between the live quiz and trivia? They're two ways to play one list of questions in your Quiz module. As guests reply is answered privately by each guest as they reply, with no timer. Live at the party is a single game on the day — everyone at once, against the clock, with a leaderboard on the big screen.

Can I reuse my quiz for the next event? Yes. Turning the quiz off keeps your questions saved for a future event.

Does the live quiz cost extra? No — it's included on every plan. You're billed by guest count when you send, per Plans and pricing.
