Near the bottom of the Details step is a card titled "A note for your guests." It holds two things: the message guests read under your invitation, and an optional dress code. The message is required; the dress code is not.

Your message (required)

This is a warm few words in your own voice — the human touch under the card. As of now it's a must-fill: an invitation with nothing from the host reads bare, so the step won't continue while the box is empty.

You have two easy ways to fill it:

  • Write it yourself. Anything from a single line to a short paragraph works (up to 600 characters).
  • Let InviteBird draft it. Tap Rewrite and we write a note that fits your event, grounded in your card and the details you've entered. Each tap gives a fresh take, and the tone follows the occasion — a birthday and a memorial get very different words. Keep it, edit it, or rewrite again.

However you fill it, the box just can't be left empty. If we drafted or prefilled the note, it shows a "Looks right?" chip until you confirm it — tapping the chip (or editing the text yourself) marks it confirmed. Running Rewrite brings the chip back so you re-read the new version before sending.

Dress code (optional)

Tell guests what to wear — "Cocktail attire," "Garden chic," "Come as you are." You can type your own (up to 60 characters) or tap one of the quick suggestions:

  • Casual
  • Formal
  • A tailored suggestion picked to match your event

Leave it blank and no dress-code line appears on the invitation. Like the note, a prefilled dress code shows a "Looks right?" chip until you confirm it.

Where guests see these

Both sit with your event details on the invitation guests open. The message appears as your note under the card; the dress code appears as a small line alongside the other facts. Anything you leave blank simply doesn't show — guests never see an empty label.

You can preview exactly how they read on the Review step before you send (see Preview your invitation).

Common questions

Why can't I skip the message? The note is what makes an invitation feel personal, so it's required. If you're stuck, tap Rewrite for a starting draft and adjust it.

Will the AI-written note mention the wrong tone? It's occasion-aware, so a somber event gets respectful wording rather than celebratory copy. You can always edit whatever it drafts.

How long can the message be? Up to 600 characters — a sentence or a short paragraph. The dress code is shorter, up to 60 characters.

I changed the note after confirming it — do I need to confirm again? Editing the text yourself counts as confirming. Only a fresh Rewrite brings the "Looks right?" chip back, so you re-check the new wording.

Can I add more detail, like parking or a schedule? Parking has its own optional field on the same step (see Dates, times, and venue). For schedules and richer info, use your event's other tools from the host desk.
